Trick or treating is a touchy subject among those who are church going people. I have been on both sides of the coin in my life. I understand the dark side and I also see how anything in life can be made dark. I choose to not focus on darkness at any time of my life. The light of Christ is the very center of my being. I am not celebrating the devil or forces of evil when my son puts on an innocent costume and asks for candy. In fact this day came from a Holy tradition many years ago, don't believe me, look it up. As I said before anything can be made to be evil. I have the choice on how I react and how I treat others who don't see it the way I do. In our house we serve the Lord 100% and we also dress up and get candy. We don't do witches or ghost or goblins. We stay away from glorifying anything negative. Thus, while it was still daylight, I went out with an Archelogist, a Detective and Donald Trump. God is good.

It dawned on me that it was getting late and I forgot to blog. Since it's still Friday, I guess better late than never. I was reflecting on life when I was single and then thinking about life married. I recall telling someone that when I got married all my troubles would be gone. How far from the truth, could I be. In fact when you get married, you still have your troubles and now you share in theirs too. Troubles or not, when you love each other and have God as your foundation, you are able to weather the troubles together. I wouldn't go back to being single for anything. I'm glad I waited and never settled. Even though life trials come, we can hold our hands together, raise them towards heaven and find strength. Yep, I will keep walking this road alongside my beloved. God is good.

Tonight Pastor Davis taught most of part 3 of his lesson he has been teaching. The purpose of the church is to do many things. We are to pray, fast, tithe and etc. There are three basic categories, Discipleship, Fellowship and Evangelism. Tonight, he focused on Evangelism. His scriptures were: Acts 1:8, Acts 2:8,Matthew 18:11,Mathew 9:36-38 John 20:21, Galatians 1:8-9, Mark 16:15-16 and Romans9:1-3\10:1. Evangelism is the great ministry of the church, we are to be witnesses for Christ. Jesus came to save the lost, we are to continue his commission. There is only one gospel, one truth, one way. Popular teaching is that there are many ways to salvation. This teaching is wrong. There is only one way to salvation. Galatians tells us that if you preach anything else, you are accursed. We must be born again of the water and of the spirit. We need to have compassion for the lost, we need to show that we care. For God so loved the world, that he gave! When you witness, it needs to be with anointing and wisdom. Pastor talked about a break down of what caused someone to come to church. 79% came because a friend or relative invited them. The greatest impact is the one on one touch you have with someone. There are two types of evangelism. Corporate evangelism brings in 21% of people. A personal touch brings in 79%. The focus does not need to be on the results, but to be on sowing the seed. When you share the love and gospel of Christ, not everyone is going to respond in a positive way. Our job is to share the salvation message and let God do the rest. Everyone needs a chance to hear the gospel at least once in their life. You may be the only Jesus that the people around you will ever see. Anyone can reject the gospel, but no one can deny you of your personal experience. Your story, is your story and no one can take it from you. A personal testimony is powerful. When someone brings a need to you, pray for them right, then and there if they will let you. Show them that you truly care. Having a home Bible study is another way of connecting Jesus with someone. Also, the simple act of inviting them to church is effective. When the Lord whispers in your ear to talk to someone, listen, if you don't you will regret it later. Respond to the leading of the spirit. You are the mouth, hands and feet of Jesus. Pastor also talked about how we are to evangelize in the house. By in the house, he meant the House of God. We get so used to our seat, our spot and our little group of friends. We forget that it's not all about us. We need to look around us and greet a visitor, make them feel welcome. You don't know what is going on in their life and they may desperately need a friendly face and voice in their life that day. There are benefits and downfalls to having a large church. The great thing is that it means many souls are coming to the Lord. The downside is that you can get lost in the crowd and not make any connections with the people around you. We need to be careful to not ignore others and get lost ourselves. It was a good lesson and one that caused me to do some soul searching. If I do not have the love of Christ in me and do not share it with others, then I am missing the whole point on why Jesus died on the cross. May God help me to love no matter if the love is not returned. God is good.

One of the wonderful discoveries of living in NY is the appearance of apple cider donuts in the Fall. I have tasted several different kinds and have loved them all. Growing up in CA, I didn't have the pleasure of the bursting forth of colors all around me, the aroma of hot apple cider accompanied with my taste buds being electrified by the flavors of the donut. Yes, this California girl has embraced NY, thanks to the Fall season. God is good.

Today marks 2 years ago that my Father-in-law passed away. He was a good man loved by many. I was going through old pictures and came across some wonderful memories of him. I miss him. I kept him a promise that I would stand on the Acts 2:38 message and I have kept it. He loved Jesus more than anything. Robert Mangeruga, I know you are in a better place, I just wish you had been with us a while longer before you went on to your heavenly reward. I'm forever greatful for the time I had with you. More than that, I'm greatful for the depth of the things of God you instilled in my boy. God is good.

Tonight Ross and RJ carved pumpkins. Ross made a really neat owl. RJ was trying to do something different and it didn't come out the way he wanted it,so his dad helped and it came out pretty cute. He's not too sure about it and might make a new one with a cross on it. For now, he has a winking pumpkin. God is good.

Once a year we attend a local church, that RJ likes to call "The Big White Church". Today we attended because they were having a hay ride and the boys were signed up to go. From what we heard, it was a blast. The man who spoke gave a compelling lesson on having purpose in your life. He shared a story about a man who's life had been saved by a sea gull when he had been lost at sea. Later in life he became very successful and would feed the sea gulls fish and then give thanks to the Lord for saving him. Jesus did many miracles in the Bible and each one was special. God has a purpose for all our lives. When we place it in God's hands, he will complete a work in you. It was a very good lesson and the sweet presence of the Lord filled the sanctuary. All in all it has been a nice weekend and we look forward to our soon return. God is good.

We came to NJ this weekend to spend some time with my Mother in law and family. During this time of the year, we like to visit the corn maze and pumpkin patch. The boys had a blast running through the maze and were thrilled when the pig race started. I'm glad RJ and Joe Joe were not too big to ride the ponies. I always love the hayride and pumpkin picking. To end the day the boys played in a bin of corn and had fun dumping buckets of corn over their heads. Sahl's corn maze was a blast! If you are in the NJ area, I highly recommend, Sahl and Son Corn Maze. We really had a good time. I'm glad to say that my Mother in law is doing so much better. God is good.

First I want to express my concern and prayers for those in the pathway of Hurricane Patricia. I can not imagine being in the path of a category 5. This morning at RJ's school there was a parent breakfast. The purpose was to touch on the new math program being taught, Singapore Math. I was not a fan of Common Core and was super relieved when I heard it was no longer at RJ's school. It seems RJ is doing very well with it and I'm amazed at how strong his math skills are. The examples given today left me feeling very excited and hopeful for the rest of the school year. I like this new way of math and the best part is that it spills over into other parts of life. To the curriculum committee that brought this new math in, I salute you! Now on to the weekend of pumpkins and mazes we go, with a constant prayer for Mexico under my breath. God is good.

Tonight was the kickoff service for the Spanish Youth Week. The service was bilingual and unfortunately I forgot to take notes. There were several speakers, one stood out to me. He was passionate about being careful to not slip. It's so easy to relax in what we stand for as Christians. If we are not careful, we can slip away and not realize it, until it's too late. He told everyone to look around and said some of you won't be here next year, make sure it's not you. It gripped me, no matter the cost, I must be saved! God is good.

Yesterday, I decided to do something I have not done in a while, I went people watching. Due to the present day of instant information via social media and the world wide web on my phone, it's been easy to be sucked into the virtual world. I decided to go to a local coffee place and just watch the daily life going on around me. The room was filled with people drinking coffee and their companion was their phone. Instead of interacting with the person in line or the barrister while their coffee was being made, each and every person had their eyes glued to their phone. Eye contact was almost impossible. There was even a group that met and instead of talking to one another, they were too absorbed with their phones. Then, two elderly ladies came in and they were carrying on a honest to goodness conversation. It was so refreshing to see. This new generation has lost their ability to connect with those around them. So much is being missed out on, due to a phone. Information at the tips of your fingers and a beautiful world is passing by unseen. It was a lesson to be learned and I hope I remember it the next time, I reach for my phone instead of connecting with the people in the room around me. God is good.

Tonight's group lesson was about living in denial. We can convince ourselves that everything is ok and our lives are just fine. When you read the Bible, you may just find that your life does not match up to what the word of God says. Do we read it and not apply it to our lives? None of us are perfect, we all make mistakes. We need to look at life as it is and have a reality check. We can live in a state of denial and in doing so, we can bring harm upon ourselves and others. When I read God's word, I'm looking at myself in the mirror and know there is work to be done in my life. God is good.

I'm happy to announce that RJ has lost another tooth. This particular tooth did not want to come out and it has hung on with every fiber. The struggle was very real and RJ finally won the battle with this tooth. I'm sure the tooth fairy will come tonight and reward him for his valiant fight and for holding out to the very end and conquoring the tooth. Three cheers for RJ and his tooth that is no more. God is good.

We had a wonderful weekend in NJ. It was so nice to see that my MIL is doing so much better. Please continue to keep her in your prayers, she still has a ways to go. Today at Solid Rock UPC, it was All Nations Sunday. It was neat to see all the nationalities that were represented. The service started out with the children putting on a parade of flags. It was super cute. The guests speaker preached with passion about how God wanted to pour out his spirit with Holy Ghost and Fire. God's spirit is for everyone. After the service ended, we all had a time of fellowship and enjoyed some delicious ethnic food. I'm thankful for the revival I feel in the air. We ended the day spending the evening with my MIL. It was a wonderful way to end the weekend. God is so good.

We are so happy that my Mother in law is out of the hospital/rehab. She was not able to come to RJ's birthday party, so we brought the party to her. It was nice to see her smile and hear her laugh. I'm thankful she is doing much better. For RJ the best gift was that she was able to hug him and she was no longer in the hospital. God is good.

A while back RJ's fish died. He was pretty discouraged and decided that he didn't want to get another fish. Bob decided to surprise him with a new fish for his birthday. We found an adorable baby boy Betta Fish. When RJ came home from school, he saw the tank and was curious. Then, when he saw the baby fish, he was so happy and super surprised. It's a joy to see him so happy. God is good. You can watch his reaction here : http://youtu.be/HEJjcT1hR1s

Tonight Pastor Davis taught a really good lesson. The second part of the lesson, "The 3 Great Purposes Of The Church". The first is to be a disciple. A disciple is one who is like the master. We are to be like Jesus. The second is Fellowship. To have fellowship is beyond the meet and greet that takes place on a Sunday during church. The second book of acts is the birth of the church. We read in Acts 2:42 that fellowship is a very important part and serves a great purpose in the church. The word Fellowship in the Bible is actually the Greek word Koinonia. This word has much more depth and meaning then the English word Fellowship. It means to comune and join in participation. The body of believers to becom intimate in with another. It does not mean in a sensual way, it means to really be connected to one another. We are a spiritual community, we are to be close with one another. We participate together in the body of life of the church. In our present day we are so busy that if we are not careful we can miss out on the importance of fellowship in our lives. We can get so busy that we burn ourselves out. We are a body of believers formed together by our fellowship one with another. We weep together and we rejoice together. Fellowship is vital to the health of a church and to our own survival. When the day of persecution comes, we will value our church family because we will be standing together. There are around 50 scriptures in the Bilble that mention, "one another". It's very clear that we need to fellowship together. Some of them are I John 4:12,Hebrews 3:13,Galatians 5:13 and Epheisians 5:19. Pastor listed more, but I was not able to write it all down. Everything spiritual begins internal, it will eventually reveal externally on the outside. When we have the Holy Ghost living inside of us,we are to love our brothers and sisters. If we do not have love for our brother, then the love of God is not in us. If we do not love the saints, something is wrong with our relationship with God. We can not be best buds with the world. We read in I John 3: 14-17 about the seriousness of not loving our brother. If we have hate in our heart towards our brother, it's likened unto murder. If you see your brother is in need and you do not help him, the love of God is not in you. When we take care of our brother, it's the same as doing it for Jesus. We are the body of Christ and we need one another. We all have a purpose. When we love one another we become strong, when we are devided we fall. Showing love and having fellowship, is a light of Christ to the world around us. God is good.

Today marks 9 years of Bob and I being married. We decided to keep it simple this year and had dinner at Lido Kosher Deli. They have the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. We then took a nice stroll along the boardwalk and enjoyed the symphony of the waves. True to good husband form, he gave me 2 dozen pink roses. Their fragrance has filled the house. Our home is one filled with love and peace from God. Our marriage is based on trust and keeping God the center of everything we say and do. The cord that keeps us entwined together is by keeping Jesus our first love. I'm thankful for 9 married years and I love him more today than ever. God is good.

Tonight, RJ stayed up for the first part of group (home Bible study). In the lesson a question was asked about why "older" Christians seem to stop seeking God like the newer Christian does. RJ raised his hand and proceeded to astound us with his 8 year old wisdom. He said, " I think they just don't get it. They think that once they found God, that's it. That's just it and no more to find. When really God is infinity and you can never stop seeking him because he never ends". God is good.

Tonight in our Bible reading a phrase stood out to me. It indicated that precious in the eyes of the Lord are the saints that pass away. It struck a cord in me. I love October. A lot of wonderful things in my life happen in this month, but there is also a tinge of sadness for me too. My Father-in-law passed away two years ago this month. I will never forget that last night in the hospital with him. Everyone had gone home and Bob and I decided to stay with him and my mother-in-law. While he was holding my hand all through the night, there was someone else in the room, Jesus. He was a faithful saint and I believe very precious in the eyes of the Lord. It does not matter the obstacles or the stones thrown your way. Never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Keep up the good fight for the faith and remember, you are precious in his sight. God is good.

Today the Missionaries from Costa Rica were guest speakers. Bro. Schwarz preached a compelling sermon and I will share it later this week. Tonight I want to focus on someone very special to me. The Bishop's wife, affectionately known as Mother Shepherd, turned 80 this month. Today, Bethel honored her with a video of her lifetime and also threw her a birthday reception. The video showed pictures of her as a young child and gave a story of a true lady. She smiles and loves on everyone and behind that smile is a women of courage and bedrock faith in God. I remember meeting her long before Bob and I were dating and she was an inspiration to me then. When I moved to NY, she welcomed me with open arms. Her humor is refreshing and her faithfulness is a testimony. If I can be half the women of God she is, I will have achieved something great. Many times when life frustrates me, I look at her and catch a wink and I think if she can make it, so can I. If you are reading this,Sis. Davis, aka, Mother Shephard, I love you. I thank God for you. Today, the never ending line of people that went on for hours was a testament of how many lives she has touched. NY is a better place because of her, I'm a better person because of her. God is good.

Today is RJ's 8th Birthday. He woke up at 1am because he was so excited about his party today. Thankfully, he went back to sleep. We started our day with chocolate chip pancakes in the shape of an 8 and opened a few presents. In the afternoon his friends since birth arrived. He had so much fun. The sand box was turned into an excavation site and the kids had a blast digging in the sand for treasures and dinosaur eggs. Later in the afternoon, Ross led a treasure hunt that led them to a chest filled with chocolate coins. What is a party without a piñata? The kids gave their best shot and finally they were able to fill their bags with candy. This year's cake was an ice cream cake and after running around it was a refreshing treat. It was so nice to see how much these kids love one another and get along so well. Throughout the day, family and loved ones called to wish RJ a Happy Birthday. I thank the Lord that it was indeed a Happy Birthday that went on into the nighttime. God is good.

Tonight Pastor Davis started, well I should say attempted to start a new series. He went off of his notes in the middle of the lesson and the part we did hear was good and the direction he went was very good as well. I like it when he teaches on Thursdays, I always learn something new. His topic is on the "3 Great Purposes Of The Church". His text was taken from Matthew 16:18,Phillipians 4:9, Philippians 3:17,II Corinthians 4:16,I Corinthians 11:1,I Thessalonians 1:6, Hebrews 6:12 and Hebrews 13:7. Our God is a creator, when he speaks, it becomes. The only thing he builds is The Church, he is still in the process of building it. At this present time the world is experiencing an Apostolic Revival like no other. We are a part of a church that is expanding. When Jesus left the world, he gave it a gift, The Church. The topic of this lesson is to cover why God created The Church, what is its purpose and what it to do is. It is to possess, minister and operate; discipleship, fellowship and evangelism. Everything of the church is under those umbrellas. The first is discipleship, to be a learner and follow the teachings of Jesus. To be a disciple of Christ, you show strength of will and character. Many people follow Jesus, but that doesn't mean they are a disciple. Jesus had a mixed multitude that followed him. A disciple is one that imitates their teacher. If you are a disciple of Christ, he is the Lord and Master of your life. When you are learning truth it leads to living the truth. It's not just about what you know, but about what you do with that knowledge. It's important to hide the word of God in our heart. If we do not know God's word, you can sin and not even know you are sinning. God is not interested in making us happy. God's purpose is to create in you the image of Jesus Christ. Things happen in your life and the first thing we say is why and Jesus tell us because. He's using the mountain you have to climb to make something good out of you. You are the bride of Christ. When you marry someone, you don't want to marry them if they are so opposite of you that you have troubles. He wants to marry someone with common ground, he does not want to marry someone like Satan. We are to prepare ourselves for his coming. We are his bride. When he appears, we will be like him. Heaven is going to be great, the best part will be seeing Jesus face to face! To be the bride of Christ, his disciple, we need to stay away from things that harm us. The first sin listed is pride. Satan lifted himself up with pride and wanted to be as God. God hates a proud look. When we are followers of Christ, it needs to progress from being a believer to being a true disciple. Believing is not enough. We must obey the word of God. Destruction comes to those that do not obey God's word. To those who obey his word, he has so much for them to partake of. The goal is to be like Jesus. The modern church changes to make the world comfortable. The Church needs to be a place where the world changes and becomes a disciple of Christ. We are not like this world, we are to stand out. We are living in the last days, Jesus is coming soon! Be ready! God is good.

Our Bible reading tonight was about the time God delivered Peter out of prison. While the people were praying for his release, Peter was standing at the gate knocking. When Rhoda saw he was there, she ran to the others inside, leaving him at the gate. How many times do we see the answer to our prayers and forget to grab it and run with it. Thankfully, Peter was finally let in. I don't fault Rhoda, she must have been so excited that she thought the others would run and let Peter in. Another lesson there too. God says,I have answered, here it is and we just argue that it can't be true. We have faith, God delivers and then our faith falters because it almost seems to good to be true. God is able and he knows where you are. When you realize that your "Peter" is at the gate, embrace it and thank God for it. God is good.

Tonight we went to the funeral of a young lady that died too soon. When we lose a loved one who has lived a long life, we grieve their loss, but give thanks they were able to live their life. When the death is of someone young,it's a stark reminder that we are not promised tomorrow, and not even the rest of today. I give thanks that my mother-in-law is still with us and will be leaving the rehabilitation center tomorrow. I give thanks that my childhood friend Edwina's new lungs are adjusting well in her body. I give thanks for the breath I breath. I also say a prayer for the grieving family that lost a loved one, way too soon. In everything give thanks. God is good.

Today, for the most part was a day of nothing. Bob decided to come home early and we spent it doing nothing. It was so nice to have a time of relaxation at home. This month makes it 9 years we have been married. It's nice that we still enjoy each other's company. Later in the evening I left for a school event that I had volunteered for, that was fun. The best part of my day however, was just sitting on the couch with Bob's head in my lap and being together. No words, just comfortable silence. God is good.

First, I want to say once again, what a great job the BYG did today leading the church in worship. Pastor described their concert last night as being epic, I think everyone that attended, agrees with him. We had a guest speaker today by the name of Tim Gaddy. He was a fired up preacher and super funny. My notes are sparse because it was an atmosphere that made it hard to stay in your seat. I will share with you what I have and I hope it blesses you like it blessed us today. His text was from Luke 5:17-26 and his title was,"Spiritual Imagination". He started off by talking about a time he was on a plane, headed to a destination. He decided to pay attention to the flight attendant as they went over the safety plans on the plan. He read the emergency card and all about how powerful the plane was. The plan was still on the ground during this time. All the explaining in the world, meant nothing if someone in the cockpit sits and doesn't do a thing. Someone has to do something to get it moving towards its destination. In the supernatural, you must engage the power of God to bring things to life. The power of God is at the beginning and then end. He is not just a God, He is the only true God. Jesus is standing there and waiting for you to just do something. When you step out in faith,he moves with you. He then sat in a chair and was showing how some just sit back and wait for God to do something. They are not putting forth any effort to touch heaven. Those who are seeking and reaching, God will answer. God exists in the ever present tense. We do and then we are. God is and so he does. He is and always has been a healer,so he heals. He always was and still is a Savoir. So he saves. We read in the book of Luke about a church meeting taking place in someone's house. Jesus was teaching and even though the place was packed out, not much was happening. Meanwhile, there was a lame man who wanted to get to Jesus, so he could be healed. His friends carried him to the house. When they got there, every entrance to get into the house was blocked. They could have just given up, but instead, they went on the roof and began to rip the roof off of the house. As Bro. Gaddy was preaching he was giving the illustration and imagination that one from the group of friends was just a bit different and didn't fit in. There is always, the one that stands out. When he said this, I heard RJ mutter under his breath,"That's me". Bro. Gaddy went on to preach that this one who was different was not about to give up. He's the one who dragged them all onto the roof and started to rip a hole into the roof. He was not going to quit. He was pushing forward and fighting for his friend. The friend was lowered to the feet of Jesus. Instead of healing, him, Jesus told him that his sins were forgiven and then he healed him. Jesus was showing them who he truly was, the messiah. When you allow your spiritual imagination to grow, you launch yourself into a supernatural atmosphere where God does the miraculous. I have no more notes, the power of God fell. God is good.

I'm sanctified proud of the BYG tonight. They did an outstanding job singing. My heart swelled and tears ran down my face as they sang their hearts out for Jesus. I know some of their stories and just seeing them up there with such joy and peace, moved me to tears. It was pure joy to watch my nephew Ross singing with them. The freedom on all their faces...oh God is so good! My dear sweet sister Christinea spoke, her words were life to all who were in attendance. Everyone who had a part, did outstanding. I will share some of it with you. I hope somehow it blesses you. God is good. I am giving you the link to some of the video clips I took. Please keep in mind they are not professional..also there is a skit they put one. The Skit is here. He's Risen is here What Can I Do..here In Jesus Name-bridge here
