The First Word Of The Gospel

Today we had a guest speaker, Bro. Smith, who pastors in Weschester. His sermon was entitled " The First Word Of The Gospel". His main scriptures were from Acts 2:38 and 3:19. The most important word of the gospel is the word Repent. Repentance is a change of mind, change of heart, and change of life. These three must go together  for true repentance to occur. Our self-centered nature requires us to repent. You can't hide anything from God, especially sin. Your sins will eventually find you out.  Repentance is not a natural thing for us to do. This desire comes from God. He calls us to repentance. When we come to repentance, he will work and heal our life. There are two types of repentance. We can have a selfish type of repentance, where we are sorry because we are caught. The other is saying your sorry before you are found out.  Where you began at repentance is not important, where you end is the issue. We all must start somewhere in our path to repentance. When we are in true repentance, we never stop changing. It's not about me, but must be about Jesus. Remember, when you sin, don't run away from God's house, run to his house. His door is always open. He wants to walk with you, be in your and help you live and overcoming life. God is good.

Science and Cheesesteaks

Today we went to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. There were some really neat exhibits on the brain and a really cute one with Elmo and Sesame Street.  Ross braved the midair bike and cycled across the line. Philly is very beautiful at night, so when we finished, we drove around for a while. We ended the evening by eating the best Philly Cheesesteaks at Rotten Ralph's. Overall, the Thanksgiving break was a good one. RJ and Ross made many good memories with Uncle Joe, his kids and most of all Grammy. God is good.

Shopping and Friends

This morning at a decent hour, I joined the group of shoppers at the mall to snag some Black Friday deals. I'm pretty happy with the gifts I purchased. Yes..I did buy a little something for myself. We ended our day having fellowship with some dear friends, The Hanscom family. We enjoyed the fellowship and yummy thanksgiving treats. It was nice to see RJ playing nicely with their little boy. I'm believing by faith RJ will have a little sister one day. I'm thankful for time with friends. God is good.

Thanksgiving Yum

Tonight we feasted on an array of Thanksgiving food. The food was delicious. What I was looking forward to was the pies my brother-in-law baked. He got creative and baked a persimmon pie. He also made a pumpkin pie and my all time favorite huckleberry pie. I enjoyed every bite! We had a peaceful dinner. My sweet niece ended the evening by giving me a beautiful butterfly to put on my Christmas tree. Of course I can't forget my Bob taking a trip to WaWa to bring me a wonderful cup of coffee to drink as we cuddled by the fire. God is good.

Grammy Day

We are in NJ for the Thanksgiving holiday.  To skip the traveling madness we left late last night. We awoke to rain and lots more rain. Regardless of the rain, RJ and Grammy had a good time. They spent the day running around doing errands and had breakfast at Dunkin Donuts. When they arrived home, they were both in a great mood. I'm thankful for special memories made and happy thoughts in their hearts. God is good.

Thanksgiving Communion

Tonight at church we took communion. Pastor taught on the importance of the link between communion and The Passover. The blood that saved the Jews, saves us today, because he shed it on the cross. We all prayed and repented before  taking communion. We must make sure our hearts are right before we do such an important act. God is good.

Mixed Feelings

When the holidays come around, I have mixed feelings. I guess the older I get, the more loved ones I have lost. When you are young, you are full of life and energy. I have a happy life and my home is filled with peace. A song plays and a loved one who has passed away comes to memory. Life truly is a vapor. I guess I am missing those who are no longer with us. Sometimes life throws you a curveball and you find yourself not the way you always imagined things to be. This week coming up is a rough one for me. It reminds me of my boy I lost. He's in heaven and in good company,I just wish I could have him here with me. So, we eat turkey, give thanks and inside I have an ache in my heart for my little Tobias who is not at the table with us. I am thankful for my husband, RJ and Ross. I feel they are gifts in my life, I treasure my time with them. So, tonight I have mixed feelings. I look forward to the week coming up, being with family. I also ache inside for a little boy that went to heaven sooner than I wanted. In everything I will give thanks, and say blessed be the name of the Lord. He gives and He takes away, blessed be his name. God is good.

The Inclusive, Exclusive Salvation

Today's sermon was outstanding, the whole service was outstanding. His sermon was titled," The Inclusive, Exclusive Salvation. He read from John 3:1-8. Jesus was very clear that we must be born of the water and the spirit. There is no wide pathway to heaven, it's a narrow gate to be entered into.  Religion can not save you. Education can not save you. Miracles can not save you. There is only one way to be saved and that is the Acts 2:38 way. You must be born of the water and of the spirit. When you are baptized in Jesus name, you are born of the water. When you are filled with God's spirit, it will show by speaking in other tounges.  This is the only way of salvation. There is no other way. If any one tell you a different doctrine, they are wrong. Even if an Angel appears to you, they are wrong. There is only one way to be saved, baptized by water in his name and filled with his spirit.  If you have not done this, you need to do so. God is good.

Coffee with Jesus

As we come closer to the end of the year and prepare for Christmas, there is a temptation. If we are not careful, we can become caught up in the mad dash of the shopping and prep. I love to give gifts at Christmas and I will admit, I'm chomping at the bit to start shopping. It's fun to find that perfect gift you know will put a smile on the face of someone you love. The e-mails, flyers and ads declare the sales and the impulse to run out the door is very real, at least for me. This morning I made a choice. I was not going to make a mad dash for the stores. Was there something I wanted to get for my boy..yes. However, I remember who this season really is about, Jesus. We have not even had our Thanksgiving turkey yet and a time of giving thanks is being pushed aside. I stopped and got off the crazy spinning cycle and had a cup of coffee with Jesus. I do my best to have one with Him every morning. He talks to me through His word and sets my day on the right path. I am determined to not let the mad dash tempt me away from my morning's with my savior. I challenge you, don't let the holiday's steal you away from what really matters. God is good.

What Really Matters

Tonight Bro. Tom Vayna taught an excellent thought provoking lesson. His title was, “What Really Matters". He based his lesson from Luke 12:13-21. This week is Bro. Vayna's anniversary. He talked about how when they got married, there was a simple Pyrex bowl given to them. It was not something on their wedding list, but they took it anyway. At this present day, they are still using it, unlike the China they picked out. Their china is used once in a while, but what really matters, the expensive china or the simple Pyrex bowl? In the spiritual sense, what you spend your time on matters. We are to be careful that we don't focus on what others have and start to wish for those things. In this day and age it's easy to start to want to desire for more than what we have or need. Life is not truly measured by how much we own. When you die, you cannot take any of it with you. We must be careful that when we are prosperous in life, they we do not lose focus. We need to seek God's Kingdome first. When we put God first, He will make sure all our needs are supplied. Material things are not an eternal investment. Eventually we will fade away, the memory of us will fade away. What really matters? Bro. Tom then ended by telling the life story of C.T. Studd. He was a wealthy man who was famous for cricket. He later became a missionary and wrote, "Only One Life, 'Twill Soon Be Past". From this these words are spoken many, many times, Only one life 'twill soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last". What matters to you? God is good.

Tuesday, November 18, 2014 Winter

If you have been paying attention to the weather reports taking place you will know that it would seem as if Old Man Winter has decided to wake up early. We have had snow in the past..but not like this. Where I am, there is no snow, but it's very cold for this time of the year. Upstate NY is getting slammed with lots and lots of snow. My mother called me to tell me that where she lives in TN it's colder than in NY and it was snowing. Some say it's climate change, other's call it global warming. I say it's a wink from God to let us know He is coming back very soon. Do I like this cold..NO. I'm not a fan of boots and today I was wearing them. It's ok..I know this season will pass and the warm weather will come back. I could always move, but hey, I like living in New York. God is good.

Rain, Rain & Rain

The rain started last night, and rained until this night. The sky was dark and one would think the sun will never shine again. I believe that tomorrow the sun will rise and shine. Let that be a lesson to remember. No matter how dark the day caused from all the rain, the sun will shine on you again. God is good.

God Has A Purpose

Today was one of those Sunday's that make you feel like Jesus has given you strength and a really big hug. At least that was how it felt for me. Pastor Davis preached a sermon by the title of "God Has A Purpose". His main text was Ephesians 3:1-5, 8-11. God has a purpose for our life. He is not standing somewhere in the distance watching things as they "just" happen. He is very involved in what is taking place. We read in I Corinthians 12:6 that He works in all things. His plan is not a temporary plan, it is formulated and has a foundation. Before The Day of Pentecost took place, the plan of God was a mystery to mankind. They did not understand what He had planned and why He allowed certain things to happen. Even the Angel's did not fully comprehend what His plan was. When Jesus was nailed to the cross, the devil thought he had won. He didn't realize that the stripes that Jesus took on his back, were the very stripes that would heal our body. The devil didn't know that with every drop of blood that Jesus shed while he hung on the cross, was shed to cover our sins. The blood of Jesus from Calvary was not the undoing of Jesus Christ, but was the saving grace for all mankind. The devil does not understand God's purpose for you in your life. He will try to get in the way and cause stumbling blocks to cross your path. God will take all these things and work out His purpose. When Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, his plan was about to be shown. On The Day of Pentecost, His plan was shown. His purpose was to dwell within his people. His eternal purpose came out of the box, came through the veil and dwelt in the hearts of men and women, boys and girls. God wants to dwell in our lives. We know from John 14:16-18 that the Holy Ghost is God, not 1/3 of a godhead. The Holy Ghost is the spirit of God dwelling within us. Jesus cares about what happens in your life. He wants to dwell within you. When you are filled with His spirit you are able to withstand the attacks from the enemy. Even when it seems that you are under the worse attack of your life, your heel will be bruised, but you will crush the devil's head. No weapon formed against you will prosper! God will never allow His plan to be thwarted. If we fail, He will raise someone else up to do the job. We are to take the impossibility of the situation and put it right on the devils head and grind it away in the name of Jesus. Jesus LOVES you, He cares about you, and He wants you to be victorious. His eternal purpose was for you and me. God is good.

Married's Thanksgiving

Tonight Bob and I attended a Married Thanksgiving Feast at our church. The food was very good and the fellowship was wonderful. If you read my blog a while back you would remember I mentined my friend John. He suffered a heart attack and almost died. Today he spoke to us and shared his testimony. He encouraged us that no matter what happens, God is there with you. He reminded us of how important family is. I'm so thankful he is feeling better and pray that his recovery will continue to be a good one. It was nice to be with other married couples who love the Lord. God is good.

Christmas Cards

Tonight, Bob and I sat down to put together our Christmas card. It took us a while to find a card we both liked and then came the editing process. It took over an hour to put this together. When the card was finished, it came out really nice. Thanksgiving has not even come yet and already we are in Christmas. I have been playing Christmas music all day and it's put me in a festive mood. I love hearing songs that are happy and joyful. Once we have sent the card in the mail, I will post it to my blog. For now, I will keep it a surprise. God is good.

Adonai Lord Of All

Tonight Pastor taught a two part lesson entitled, "Adonai Lord of All, The Sovereign Lord". His main text was from Psalms 135:5-6. God is God, I am not. He does what He pleases, when He pleases. He does not need to explain to us why He does some of the things He does. He has all power. You cannot bribe God into what you want by fasting. Fasting it to be done to put us into His perfect will. Adonai means He is the Lord, master, father, and has all authority. All of us can call him our creator, some of us can call him our savior, can we call him our Adonai. Jesus is God, God is Jesus. He is One. Philippians 2:11 tells us that He is The Lord over all. God is sovereign and does what He wants. He knows the end from the beginning. God possess the supreme power and authority. He is in perfect control of everything that is taking place. He knows all things. You cannot surprise God. God is in control even when things are going bad. He is in control when things are going good. He takes all things and works them out to be for the good. All power given to man comes from God. You are responsible to how you handle the power given to you. We do not have the right to defy government, unless it goes against the word of God. There is one ultimate judge and that is Jesus Christ. The necessity of sovereignty is He must be Omnipresent, Omniscient, Omnipotent and Immutable. When God is Omnipresent, He is everywhere at the same time. He is in your past, present and future all at once. He dwells outside of time. He is here right now as I type, and He is on the comet that the robot just landed on. God is everywhere. We are not omnipresent and the devil is not either. We are created beings and only can be at one place at one time. The devil sends his spirits to do his work. When you are filled with God's spirit, He goes with you. God has all authority over where you are at. Where you go, His spirit goes. You are not alone, God is with you. God is Omniscient, he sees all and has infinite knowledge. The only thing God forgets is the repented sins of mankind. God will test us so we can see what is inside of us. He already knows what is there. He wants us to see, so we can work on being a better Christian. God knows your thoughts, your secrets and your motives. He knows the things you struggle with and wants to help you through them. If He knows the hairs on our head and when a sparrow falls, He knows where you are. God cares about you. Is He the Adonai of your life? God is good.

The Best Is Yet To Come

It's November and soon I will be reflecting on the past year. When the year first started I mentioned my theme was Freedom in Christ. There is just something about being in the presence of the Lord that breaks you free from bondage. I won't reflect on this year yet, but I would like to say I believe that the best is yet to come. Our pastor likes to say that phrase often. I like to hope and pray that the best is yet to come for us. We are wanting to have another child and have not given up hope that it can and will happen. God gave us a name for a girl and we believe he would not give us a name and not give her to us. Sometimes we have to believe in the "best" coming even when all odds are stacked against you and say it's just not possible. I refuse to give up hope on the promises of God. I truly believe that the best is yet to come for the Manners Family. God is good.

2 Pound Mathmagician

Today RJ did not have school in honor of Veterans Day. We talked a bit about who a Veteran was and why it's important to give them honor and respect. My Father in Law was a military man and my grandfather was also in the military. It's good to give respect and thanks to those who fight for our freedom. RJ still had homework and we needed to get it done before we went to the doctor to see if he has gained any weight. As he was flying through his math,he declared “I am so good at math I am a Mathamgician". I think he meant Mathematician, but I let him keep it just the way it was. We are so glad to know that he has gained 2 pounds and grown an inch. He has been struggling to gain weight and is still not where he needs to be. However, we give thanks that our Mathamagician is gaining weight, growing and is healthy. God is good.

Time to Sleep

When we have our nightly Bible reading and RJ is starting to fall asleep, Bob will throw in phrases like "Time to Sleep", and "Getting Sleepy" into the scriptures.. When RJ was 5 or even 6 years old, he didn't always catch it. Tonight as Bob was carrying RJ to bed and said, "Time to sleep", RJ laughed and said he likes it when daddy throws in his silly sleep words into the scriptures. RJ is only 7, and he knows his Bible. We have been reading it out loud to him since he was in my womb. There are only traces of the little boy/baby in him. He is growing as he should be. Today at the dentist, he was a good boy and there were no outburst or hysterical crying moments. He told us he felt a tear coming in his eye, but he didn't cry. He's getting big so quickly. We cherish him and thank God for him. God is good.

Cake and Roses

Last night we headed to NJ to celebrate  2 more birthdays. We started our day attending church at Solid Rock. Bro. Hanscom preached a very impassioned sermon on wanting more of Jesus in your life. This afternoon we celebrated our nephew Joe Joe's birthday. The kids had a really good time running in the woods and I'm sure are covered in dirt. After we had birthday cake, Bob and I took his mom out to dinner. Today is her birthday and we wanted to celebrate her as well. The dinner at The Smithville Inn was fantastic. When she arrived home she was greeted with flowers from Taylor and Dennis as well as a dozen red roses from us. The day was a wonderful one and we are so glad we came for our quick visit. God is good.

2 Parties

Today RJ attended two birthday parties. The first was for a classmate and the kids had fun just running in circles. Later in the day he joined his church friend for a birthday party as well. The kids learned how to be knights and sword fight/ fencing. The kids were having a blast dueling. RJ gave up after the 2nd loss. He declared he's really good at math and just not so good at any sport. I told him he needed to not worry about being good at sports, just have fun with his friends. All in all it was a day packed with fun. God is good.

I was sitting here trying to think of what to write for today. For whatever odd reason, The Sound of Music's, “I Have Confidence..", was going through my head. I like this phrase of the song the most: "I have confidence in sunshine I have confidence in rain I have confidence that spring will come again Besides which you see I have confidence in me.." As you may or may not know I tend to cringe when the winter winds start to blow. Today I could feel the frost breathing down my neck and whispering in my ear, it's time for boots. NO, NOT THE BOOTS! Sandal weather is long gone. However, dear Mr. Frost, I decided to bake. I baked the most delicious Pumpkin Bread ever! The house was nice and toasty, thus there was no need for boots in my warm cozy home. I have confidence that even when the cold winds blow, I can be warm inside. I have confidence that when my nose is cold, it will only last for a while. Winter comes and I have confidence it will go. God is good.

Tonight we had guest missionaries to Vanuatu. The Grations are originally from Australia and have spent many years on the mission field. Most of those years were in Papua New Guinea. The past three years have been in Vanuatu. It was clear they really love what they do and have a desire to share Jesus with those who do not know about him. They spoke about the countries they have been ministering in and the present Bible School being built in Vanuatu. Bro. Gration used several examples on how God will start you in one place and sometimes things will happen that do not make sense in your life. These things are for a reason and later when you look back, you realize it was to prepare you for what was to come. We can use our life situations to help others. Because Jesus died on the cross for us, it's our responsibility to tell others about his salvation gospel. Bro. Gration ended with a story about a lady in Vanuatu who for three years walked for 2 hours each way to go to the Bible school. Her desire to learn about God and to be able to teach others, surpassed her reality of a lack of transportation. She walked there and back faithfully and was never late. When you are dedicated to something, you will find a way. I have great respect for missionaries. God is good.

Baking Time

As I posted before, when Fall arrives, I love to bake. It has been a bit warm over the past few days, so I have held out on baking my first pumpkin loaf. The weather report is predicting some cold weather. I am so excited! Well..not excited to be cold, but excited to bake. I have my items ready and tomorrow, I shall bake away. It's November so, soon I will bake my chocolate graham crust pumpkin pie. OH my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Baking for me is fun, eating what I baked is a lot more fun! Enjoy life today, you don't know what tomorrow will bring. God is good.

It Is Well

Tonight's group lesson was about Paul being on a shipwreck. A song came to mind..I may have mentioned it before. I would like to share it again. I think it's fitting to some life "stuff" taking place. I shall stand on the boat even though it seems like it's about to be ship wrecked and say, " Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul." You can listen to it here. We have a choice in our life situtaions on how we react. I shall lift my head towards heaven and say it is well with my soul. God is good.

Monday, November 03, 2014

I woke up this morning to the sound of my husband washing the dishes. The house was clean and RJ and his dad had already prayed together. It was not even 7am yet and my day was starting out great! Monday..the day most people don't look forward to. I like Monday's. I do the laundry and prepare for the week ahead. Every once in a while on a Monday evening, the men have a prayer meeting at the church. Today was one of those Monday's. When Bob, RJ and Ross came home from the prayer meeting, I was told that RJ asked for prayer and all the men prayed for him. Monday..what a great day..Monday. God is good.

The Heart Healer

Today the service was run by the youth group and we had a guest speaker. The youth did an outstanding job leading the music and worship. Bro. Trimble preached a sermon entitled, "The Heart Healer". He preached from Psalms 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. We have all had our heart's broken. The literal heart in our body can be broken in a sense when it does not work any longer. There are times when repair is needed and the surgeon opens it up to do what is needed. Our hearts in the spiritual and emotional sense can be wounded and in need of repair. Jesus knew what it was like to have his heart broken and wounded by those he loved. His own family rejected him. He was beaten and hung on a cross by the same people that at one time worshiped him. When Jesus healed the sick, he didn't just heal their bodies, he restored their families as well. Jesus knew the pain of a broken heart. When we are wounded and our hearts have been broken by life situations, we can give our heart to him. Jesus will gently take our broken heart into his nail scarred hands and heal it. Many times we try to heal our hearts on our own. We can try to escape the pain in drugs, someone else or changing our life style. These things are only a band aid and never deal with the brokenness of the heart. Jesus can heal the brokenness, if we let him. Bro. Trimble didn't preach for a long time and when he was finished, the alter was packed. I think it was one of the longer alter calls I have been in. People were giving Jesus their broken hearts and he was healing them. We have preachers come through all the time. I was deeply impacted by their love for others. Sis. Trimble is a real lady and the love of God just pours out from her. I'm so glad they came today. God is good.

And The Rain Came Down

When we went to sleep last night the rain had started to fall. When I woke up it was still raining, even now it is still raining. Weather forecast for tomorrow shows no rain. It would seem that summer is far behind us, Autumn is in full swing and winter is peeking around the corner. The boots, scarves, jackets and gloves are brought out and worn. Hot chocolate is the drink that seems to satisfy the most. I enjoy this changing of the season. I do miss the sunshine, but I know that the rain can only come down so long and the sun will shine again. As in the seasons of life..the rain will fall, but the sun will shine again. God is good.
