God's Glory On Display

Today we had a quest speaker, Bro. Smith. He preached a sermon titled " God's Glory On Display." His main scriptures were Exodus 33:17-18 and Philippians 3:10. At first he started in the Old Testament giving various instances of how God's Glory was described. From there he took us to the New Testament and tied God's Glory into our daily lives. When we receive God's spirit within us, His Glory is residing inside of us. We need to make sure that His Glory is able to shine through us. He talked about dying to our flesh on a daily basis so our agenda gets out of the way and God is able to guide us throughout our day. He challenged us to start our day off first by praying and reading the Bible. Keeping God in the center of our lives and putting His Glory in display in all we do. I want to end with an RJ story. This morning when I dropped him off at Sunday School, the teacher introduced him to a boy who was visiting. She asked him to tell him how great class was. RJ looked at the boy and said: "Well..really, it's not that great. I'm not too fond of it myself, you know." The teacher was trying very hard not to laugh and the poor boy started to cry. RJ then says," Well, do you want me to tell the truth? I don't want to lie to him. It's not very decorated in here and there are no toys." Lord help his teachers.. I will say this, when I picked him up, he was as happy as could be and he recited to us the whole lesson and was encouraged..yes encouraged that God can and I quote: " If God can give Abraham and Sarah a baby when they were old, well...He can give you and a daddy a baby too, cause your old." I love my son... God is Good!

For Love of Fall

Pumpkin Pie, Apple Cider, Apple pie and cinnamon scented pine cones. Burst of colors breaking through all around me. A chill in the air, says fall is here. Time to break out the warmer clothes and put the sandals away. A sigh for summer is gone, a smile for fall has arrived. Fall, how I love you...I met my husband in the fall. I married my husband in the fall. My son was born in the fall. One can see the death of things, I see only beauty. God is Good!

Rainbow Duster

This month I signed up to help clean the church. RJ loves joining me because he feels it's important to keep God's house clean. While I vacuum, he takes the rainbow duster and looks for something to clean. Its a joy having him with me.
To make the day even better, it had rained and when we were done he played in the puddles.

Class

I wish I could have heard Pastor Davis' lesson tonight. I was volunteering in one of the Thursday night classes for RJ's class. I did enjoy being with him and was super proud when he knew some of the ten commandments. What I did gather as I came into the sanctuary was that we need to allow God to give us deliverance of things that have a hold on our lives. My husband said the title was "Will the real Christian please stand up?" Modern day Christianity is becoming just like the world. We have to be true Christians. God is Good!

Appleseed

Today is Johnny Appleseed's birthday. We know this because this morning RJ informed us of it. Thus, tonight we decided to learn more about this man. He is a real man, even though his last name was not Appleseed. He spent his life planting apple trees all over the USA...he planted more than just apple seeds. He also would read the Bible in the homes of those he stayed with while on his journey during the pioneer days. His life was spent feeding the body and the soul of others. Thus, tonight we ate apples and upon RJ's request sang Happy Birthday to Johnny Appleseed. God is Good!

Giving

Tonight's Care Group lesson was about giving. Of course our typical first thought is money..but you can also give in other ways. You can give of your time and do something kind for someone else. There are tons of places that are asking for volunteers. Once you give of self, you well truly feel that it is better to give than to receive. I have a feeling that once RJ gives his pies to his school, he's going to feel amazing inside..why, because he did something nice for someone else. Are you feeling down and having a bad day? Get out of yourself and help somewhere..you will find your problems are nothing compared to others. God is Good!

Believe

This week while in the car RJ and I were chatting. He was telling me something that happened at school and I must not have responded in a way that he thought I should and he said. " Really Mom, it's true." Me: " I believe you RJ." RJ:" Well, MOM, you KNOW you shouldn't do that." Me:" Do what?". RJ: " You are only supposed to believe in God and if you believe in me, then you are worshiping me and well..that's not good." I then of course gave him a quick definition of what the word believe meant. He was quiet and said.." Ok..well..just make sure you believe in the only true God..there's only one you know." And that was the end of the conversation. God is Good!

Preference or Conviction

Pastor Davis preached from his pastoral heart today. It was not one of those hand clapping, running the aisle types of sermons. It was the kind where you know you better be instilling the words into your heart and applying it to your life. His title was "Preference or Conviction." His main passage of scripture was II Timothy 1:8-12, I suggest you look it up. You can have a preference for something but circumstances or pressure can cause you to change your preference. Your preference is tied into you opinion and an opinion can be changed. However a Conviction is a belief that you will not change regardless of the pressure being put on you to change. Your internal convictions will reveal itself by your outward behavior. We are living in a time where the things in the Bible are now being frowned upon. Can you stand on God's word and let God's word be true and every man a liar? Yousef Nadarkhani was willing to die for Christ. He would not recant and only by the grace of God was he released. I pray now that he is free from prison, he continues to stand strong for Christ and does not give it to the pressures to change. I began to think..can I truly say that for God I live and for God I will die? We are constantly reading in the news about people blowing themselves up in the name of their God. I do not believe in causing harm to another person because of your faith or belief. God tells us in his word that if you live by the sword you die by the sword and our weapons are not carnal, but are spiritual..I do see a day coming when I may have to chose between my belief in Christ or I will die. My whole life has been dedicated for Christ, I will have lost everything and all I stand for if in the end I can not be firm and choose Christ. RJ is already feeling this and he is only in Kindergarten. He declared to his teacher that he does not want to practice yoga in class and preferred to sit it out because he feels in his heart it would not please God. I had a talk with his teacher, they understand. My boy is standing strong on his convictions and we are so thankful and proud of him. Will you be strong? Will you hold to your Convictions..or will you realize God is only a preference in your life? God is Good!

Mozart

We have a dog named Mozart. He and RJ are 5 days apart and Mozart became a part of our family when they were both 7 months old. I have had dogs most of my life and am glad that RJ has a doggy too. I think our dog is the smartest dog I have ever had, besides Oreo. Tonight I was enjoying the sight of RJ and his dog running around the house. I like to hear RJ laugh and Mozart gives him company. Pets are not for everyone..for us..Mozart is perfect. I thank God for the big things, little things and the everyday things...I thank God for our dog Mozart. God is Good!

The Gift of Pies

Tonight RJ randomly looks at me and asked if he could give a pie as a snack to every class at his school on his birthday. He wants to celebrate his birthday by giving. Thankfully, his school is not a large one and I think I can pull it off. My mommy heart was bursting with love for my boy, for having such a wonderful request. I know he is four and let me tell you he has his four year old moments, no child is perfect. Tonight once again showed me a window into his heart..He is a giver. To top it off, when we said our prayers, he did it with a smile and whispered.." I know how to pray." God is Good!

Baaa Baaa Lamb

Tonight was the beginning of a 3 church services that are focused on the kids. All the children sat on the front three rows and of course RJ was on the very front with all the little boys and girls his age. I wasn't sure how he would handle it since he is still on the little side and was getting tired. Happily, he stayed awake until it was done. The night started with the children singing three songs and was followed by some very funny singing by some puppets. One of them consisted of three sheep and they sang a song with the words Baaa Baaa Lamb...RJ thought they were pretty funny and was singing the song on the way home. Tonight when the kids were praying, I asked him if he wanted to pray and he put his arms around me and told me no because he didn't know how to pray. When we got home I asked him to explain what he meant..here is what he said.." Well..I don't know want to pray because if I do, I will be sticking my tongue out at God." That is when I had an aha moment...he thought praying was the same thing as receiving the Holy Ghost and then whenever he was asked if wanted to pray, he always said no because he didn't want to be rude to God and stick his tongue out at him. I was able to tell him that praying was using words he could understand and that God loves to hear whatever he wants to talk to him about. RJ was so happy when he found out that praying was using his own words and that he didn't have to worry about sticking his tongue out at God. I also told him that when he received the Holy Spirit, it was nothing to be afraid of and the when it happens, he is not being rude to God. I also told him it will happen when he is ready and God would never do anything to him to make him afraid because He loves RJ. I gave him a quick ACTS 2:38 lesson and made it as simple as possible. He fell asleep with a very big smile on his face because he realized that he can pray and use his own words and God would understand him. Praying is so simple and easy, we make it complicated....have you talked with God lately? God is Good! If you are in the area and would like to bring your kids to see some very funny puppets, the next two times will be this Saturday the 22nd of September at 12:00 pm and Sunday at 12:00pm Bethel United Pentecostal Church 357 Jericho Turnpike, Old Westbury, New York

Angry Bird Tears

Tonight we attended RJ's Back To School Night. We are thrilled with the direction the teacher is taking the class and are confident that he is on the right track. As I was typing this blog, RJ woke up and came to us crying. He said he was thinking about the yellow angry bird that had no family. He was so upset he could hardly talk. After holding him and letting him talk it out, it went even deeper. He is sad because he does not have a baby brother or sister. We prayed together as a family for God to hear his hearts cry and give him a sibling. Before when we encountered this, he would pray with great faith. Tonight, he wouldn't even pray. I wept when he went back to bed. I don't understand why we still do not have another child. I know what God has promised us and I hold on to that promise. I hope and pray that God saw RJ's tears tonight and is moved to make a miracle happen and give this precious little boy the desires of his heart. Will you help us pray that God answers the tears of a little boy? God is Good!

A Storm or Peace

As I type a storm is raging outside, the wind is howling, torrential rains are falling and there is lightning. Outside is chaotic weather madness. Inside our home it's a different story. The lights are dim, soft music is playing in the background and we just finished our nightly prayers. Even though a storm is raging outside, there is extreme peace inside. Walking with God is like that. Life can toss us into some very huge storms and if we allow them, they will put terror into our hearts. When we put God in the very center of our lives, the storms can rage around us, yet we will have perfect peace. Our little boy is sleeping peacefully in bed, there is no fear of the storm outside, because he knows who the peace speaker is. Is Jesus the peace speaker in your life? God is Good!

Stone

This weekend we attended service in NJ. Pastor Hanscom preached a thought provoking sermon.  He talked about how Gods love is so great that he will even reach out to a stone.  Its up to you if you will become a paperweight or if you will be a part if the foundation.
We have enjoyed our time here with family. RJ always has a great time with his cousins.

Autumn arrives

I love this time of the year. Living in NY makes the changing of the seasons exciting.  I like changing my wardrobe and the colors as the leaves change, take my breath away.  The weather is perfect and it makes perfect cuddle time.  I'm looking forward to observing God's handiwork as the leaves change colors and create a beautiful rainbow carpets on the ground.

Are You Ready?

Tonight for our Thursday night Bible Study at church, Bro Joe taught about the second coming of Christ. He was imploring us to be ready for Christ' return. Many, many things that are talked about in the Bible that would take place are starting to take happen. We need to be ready and watching for Christ' return. The Bible does not tell us the exact date, but we are given clues and many of those things are now coming to past.

Are you ready? Are you watching for the soon coming of our Lord?

Hug Time

Since RJ has started Kindergarten and this days are longer, we are learning new routines. Now when he comes home, he likes to have something to drink and wants me to sit on the couch and cuddle with him. I LOVE this time and it lasts, if I am lucky, for about 15 minutes. When he is done, he then wants to go visit his dad at the office which then turns into his begging his dad to come home so they can work on his homework together. Yesterday as we were having our cuddle time, inside I was thanking God for the ability to hold my son and surround him with love. Just as I was thinking this, RJ let out a very contented sigh and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
Parents..do you stop in your busy and crazy life and just hold your children? When is that last time you pulled them close and let them feel how much you love them. Don't let life keep you from precious moments that once they are lost can never be regained.

School Angels

Today after RJ got home from school he sits next to me and says : " You know mom...I have Angels that go with me to school. When I am there they watch over me. I can't see them when my eyes are open and well..when I close them I can't see them either, but I know they are there."

Yes!!! He is correct, he does have Angels that watch over him and every morning I pray for God to protect him.

If we could only have childlike faith, we wouldn't worry so much. We are not alone. God is with us...we have Angels with us..

Birthday Love

Today is my Birthday. I have to say it's been a wonderful day, the weather was perfect. I went shopping for shoes and scored an awesome deal. I love bargains! Then my sweet boy who hates to see flowers die, gave me a beautiful bouquet of "fake" flowers. He wanted me to have my birthday flowers, for forever. He did a very good job picking out the flowers and arranged them in a lovely way. I think I will always cherish these flowers.
All day I was receiving Birthday wishes via the phone, cards in the mail and facebook notes.

Tonight we had dinner in my favorite restaurant in Flushing,(Queens), NY.
The Red Bowl has the best Chinese Food. We ended the night at home with Birthday cake. It was simple and I'm glad Christinea joined us. Today was a very peaceful day and a happy day.

Lose or Win

Pastor Davis preached one of those sermons that felt like there was a big sign saying "Pay attention Julia, this is for you." Pastor's title was: "Born to Lose or Born to Win". He always preaches good sermons, but this one..well..it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay at the top of my list. He preached on how sometimes nothing we touch seems to work. We feel like we are walking around with a bit loser sign on our forehead. In Ephesians 6:12 it says "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
I Peter 5:8 says "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." The Devil works very hard at trying to convince us that we are losers. If he can get us to give up and believe the lie, we will start to live it and fulfill the lie of the devil
When we are born we are born into sin, but there is hope for us. When we are born again in Christ, we are a new creature.
We must realize that if God be for us, who can be against us!
John 10:10 says "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
Being born once is not enough, you can be born again. With Jesus we can born again, and when we are, we are born winners. John 3:5,6 "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."
A new birth in Christ brings you into a new world..you are a winner!
As we grow, we take on the Characteristics of Christ and become more like Him.
So when the devil shows you the Loser sign, you stand tall and tell him he is a liar! Once you are covered by the blood of Christ, you become a new person and you are a child of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Get back devil! I win because I am NOT a loser, I am a winner through Christ that is within me!
God is Good!
On a side note: We had an amazing Sheaves For Christ picnic at Bethel..I truly enjoyed my time with everyone.

New Bed, a Tornado and Freedom

Lately RJ has been waking up in the middle of the night and telling us that his bed is too hard and he can't sleep. We figured it was a good time to pull his toddler bed and make it the twin size. Tonight is his first night sleeping on his big boy bed. I guess it's a good way to end his first week of Kindergarten. It has been a big adjustment for us, he truly is a little boy and most of his toddlerness is gone. I pray God keeps him and protects his little heart, mind, body and soul.

On a side note, we had a Tornado touch down in NY....I think it's rare for us to have one, but then again last year we had an earthquake.

The best part of today was the news that Yousef Nadarkhani has been released from prison. When I heard the news tears of joy streamed down my face. Many, many have prayed for him. I have inserted a picture of his release and his family running to him...such a beautiful moment!
God is coming soon.

The Boat

A while back RJ saw a boat at the store. He asked me to buy it and I told him no. He never forgot about the boat, but like a good boy didn't ask for it again.
A couple of days ago Bob came home with a surprise for RJ. He unknowingly purchased the boat RJ had asked for several months ago. When RJ saw what his dad had brought him, he almost started weeping and threw his arms around his dad while proclaiming how thankful he was for the boat. He went on to tell his dad about how much he had really wanted the boat, but couldn't get it.

It was so sweet and took us both off guard. Something so little was also so very great.

Kindergarten-1st Day

I didn't sleep well last night, part of it was due to my crying over the fact that my baby was starting Kindergarten and the other to worrying about his first bus ride. I kept checking on him and wondering where my baby boy had gone. He woke up excited and we all prayed together as a family. When the bus arrived he was so excited he could barely contain himself. Me being the mommy I am drove to the school to make sure the bus arrived. It did and I saw a happy boy get off the bus and go into school. He loved riding the bus so much that he wants to ride it every day. When he got off the bus, I knew that my baby had went on the bus and a little boy walked off. I asked him how Kindergarten went and he said it was "fine". When I pressed for more details he says to me." Well...I didn't like Simon says in gym and in class we played a little bit and most of the time she just taught..but I liked it." I know he must be excited because he wanted to trace letters today and all summer I couldn't get him to even try. I love his teachers so I am not worried about that area. He was pretty tired when he got home, but happy. It's a big change for me and I know I must let go and allow him to grow in this next phase. Thankfully he's still my sweet boy and when we got home gave me lots of hugs and kisses.

Kinder Bus

Tomorrow starts a new chapter in our lives. RJ is starting Kindergarten. We don't live far from his school and can drop him off, but he really wants to go on the school bus. So...we are going to let him ride the bus with his other classmates. He's so excited about the bus, he got over his worries about Kindergarten. Me, well, I'm a bit of a mess. I am never really ready when he hits a major milestone. It's hard for me to let go, but let go I must. Of course he is still my baby boy, he will always be my baby boy, no matter how old or tall he gets. My heart is telling me that my baby is getting on the bus and when he gets off the bus, I will be picking up a little boy.
This summer has been amazing and it truly was filled with laughter and love. Now, we move forward to Kindergarten.

Masterpiece

Today's church service was one of those, the water is stirred, jump in and a miracle will happen. The praise and worship was intense and God responded. I could feel faith rising and I have no doubt that in the near future we are going to start getting reports of the miraculous happening in lives.

Bishop Davis gave a short exhortation to the church he said that God being here is not enough, He wants to know if we believe He can do what we are asking for. He reacts to our faith concerning the need. I truly believe that today God honored a lot of faith and good things are about to happen.

We had a guest speaker today. He is the former youth pastor, Bro. Dean, and he preached an outstanding sermon titled " I am a Masterpiece." I have always liked his preaching, today topped the charts.

He talked about how we are fearfully and wonderfully made and that when God created everything He spoke it into existence, but with us, He created us.
It doesn't stop at His creating us, we are a continual work in progress. Since we are His masterpiece He is always pouring into our lives so that we can reach the potential of what He created us to be. When God begins a work He will perform it to the end.
He used I Corinthians 6:10-11 (NIV)10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

God created us and even when we make mistakes, He washes us, He cleans us up and we become His masterpiece. No matter where you are in your life. God cares about you and He wants the best for you.

Bro. Dean also told the story of Samson who was meant for great things, yet became distracted and in the end he finally became what God had designed him to be.

We don't need to walk around with our heads hanging down because we are different. We need to walk with our heads held high knowing we are the masterpiece of God and we are the salt and light of the earth. If God is shinning through you, you are bringing light and hope into a dark world.
Now more then ever before, do not be afraid to be a Christian, stand up, be the light of Christ.

On a side note: RJ went to Sunday School today and came out as happy as could be. I am so thankful..we want him to love attending Sunday School..much love and hugs to the staff!

Tree House Revisited

Last Summer Bob built RJ a tree house from scratch. He had no blueprints and it truly was a labor of love. This summer he has focused on the details of the tree house. The door now has the number 4 on it because RJ is 4 and will change every year to match his age. There is now also a mailbox with RJ's name on it, so when he gets mail, I'll put in his mailbox. His first letter was a thank you card from Tupelo Children's Mansion for sending box tops and education labels. Thank you TCM!! RJ was so happy to get a card from his favorite orphanage. He also, has a tiny little bird house on the railing. The inside of the tree house has his name on the wall in two large wooden letters and the last thing will be shelves to put some toys on. Whenever kids come over they can't wait to go inside his tree house. It truly is very welcoming and RJ loves playing in it. The best part is that it's covered with love from a father to his son.
I started to think about our Heavenly Father. If my husband would put that much love and work into something for RJ, how much does my heavenly father put into my "house" and life. He has promised to prepare a place for us. The Bible describes heaven and it's so detailed that I can only imagine how awesome it's going to be there.
God loves me and He loves you. He cares about every detail of your life. He has only good things for you. Even when things don't make sense..in the end..it's a masterpiece of perfection, a gift of love for you.
