I started this blog several years ago as an outlet. To whomever reads my blog, I hope you are encouraged. I do my best to keep it short, so it can be a breath of fresh air.

This morning RJ woke me up by asking me if I could go into the living room and pray with him. I was a bit groggy, but also very happy to see that he was feeling much better. He went to school today and when I picked him up came out humming and a bit tired. He was still not a 100% and I figured we would rest and take it easy the rest of the day. In the car he says he wants Fish Ball Soup. I was like..ok..that sounds great since I really wanted him to eat. After some research I found a place near my home that would make it fresh for him. Thus, tonight I watched my son chow down a lot of Chinese Food and a bowl of fish ball soup. By the time he went to bed tonight he was in full swing. My little boy was happy and feeling much, much better. Thank God for Fish Ball Soup!

On our way UP!

RJ woke up this morning still feeling pretty sick and for most of the day stayed on the couch. I was able to get him to eat/drink and then around 3ish, he got this burst of energy. The gunk in his eyes went away, but then came back and then cleared up again. Thankfully, he started asking for all kinds of things to eat and ate a lot of fruit. I knew he was starting to feel great when he started to build the Titanic out of his Mega Blocks. Hopefully, he will sleep through the night and wake up feeling good and ready to go to school. Either way, I am thankful to see him happy and eating at least for this evening. Thank you for all your prayers and kind words. My best friend told me today that when we (mothers) get to heaven we are going to have a special crown and reward. I believe that. To all the Mom's out there I "hug" you! Being a mom is like a roller coaster ride. You have those awesome moments where you breath is taken away and then those moments of terror as you go diving downward. Never fear, life will "right" itself and you will coast again.

It Continues

RJ woke up around 2 am and "goosed up" as he calls throw up, and I knew he was not going to school today. He drank his fluids and went back to bed. Around 7ish he woke up feeling like a million dollars, full of energy. We went for his doctors appointment and he was chatting with everyone and sharing with them his new obsession, The Titanic. Doctor said he was good to go to school tomorrow. I was like, YES! All seemed well and then around 3 he started to get real grumpy and I was able to get him to take a nap. He woke up from his nap with super crusty eyelids..OOOOH great. At 11 pm, he threw up again. Sigh...I am tired and I will admit I was murmuring, complaining, crying, and screaming inside while I soothed my son with my calm mommy voice. He is now asleep and we will see what the morning holds for us. I feel so bad for him and totally helpless. I can't understand why he is not able to shake this. He no longer has a fever, but is still throwing up. I told the Lord that I was going to try to find the positive side of this and so I gave thanks for my washer and dryer, because without it, I would not be able to wash his blankets at midnight. I know this will pass and soon, he will be up and about and all will be well again. Until that day comes, I ask the Lord to give me strength and rest for this weary body and mind. Most of all, I ask He heal my little boy.

103.7 = ER

Late Thursday night into early Friday morning, RJ woke us up to tell us he had thrown up. I did the mommy thing and took care of him and cleaned up the mess. When I took his fever I was alarmed that it was 102. After giving him medicine, he fell asleep and his fever went down. Most of the day Friday he was lethargic and I couldn't get him to drink much. Then around 1 in the afternoon he had a 101 fever, so I gave him medicine and kept an eye on him, within an hour his eyes were rolling back in his head and his fever spiked to 103.5. I called his doctor and took him in right away. He was shaking and so hot. The doctor decided he should go to the ER. Thankfully the hospital was literally across the street from us. By the time he was in the ER, his fever had shot up to 103.7. He was such a trooper when they had to poke him with needles and when they took a lot of blood. He started to rally when they hooked him up to fluids. The nurse was ticked when they asked him if he wanted to watch cartoons and he not liking what was on said he would rather watch something else. When the nurse got to the scenic/music for relaxation channel he told her that would help him feel better. After examination the doctors decided to give him a cat-scan because he had pain in his stomach combined with such a high fever. He was so brave when he had to go through the "donut" and told the nurse to be gentle with him. Thankfully the diagnosis was not his appendix, but that he had a viral infection. We recieved so many calls, texts and facebook messages from people letting us know they were praying for him. We are so thankful for those prayers.
Yesterday he seemed to be doing great, but this morning he threw up again and the fever is back. Tomorrow, I'll be taking him to see his doctor and we will go from there. I ask that if you read this blog and you pray, to please say a prayer for my little boy. He's been very brave and I want him to be back to his normal self again.

His Heartbeat Brings Freedom

Tonight after church, while driving in the car, I was thinking about the sermon Bro. Ralph preached. He talked about having/knowing the heartbeat of God. As I was thinking about it, a song came on the radio with the theme of being free. The words in the song were:" I am free to run, I am free to to live my life for you, I am free." I don't know who wrote it, but it was being sung by the Newsboys. All of a sudden I had goose bumps all over me and I could feel God's presence so strong in the car. It all tied in together for me. When you become closer and closer to God, so close that you know His heartbeat, you become more free. Those who don't profess themselves to be a Christian, look at us like we are bound and a bit crazy..but really, the more we have of Him, the more free we become. A man by the name of Youcef Nardkhanie may be hanged. Why? He is may hang because he found freedom in Christ Jesus. He is not afraid to die for his God, because as he became closer to God, in God alone, he became free. Iran can kill his body, but his soul is already free in Christ Jesus. Youcef is free to run, free to dance and free to live for Jesus Christ, no matter what the Iranian government does to his body, he is already free in Christ.

Eternal Cricket

Tonight in Care Group the question was asked what things could be considered eternal and unseen. Everyone was saying their ideas and RJ says: " Well I know something that is small and eternal (I think he thought the question was small and eternal). It's a Cricket!" Bro. Robert didn't miss a beat and said that he was right and so were Cockroaches! We all had a good laugh and RJ was super excited because he likes to make people laugh.
Laughter is good for the soul.

Rock Concert

This week RJ is out of school due to winter break. I didn't plan anything in advance since I thought we might take a road trip to Tennessee to see family. Since the road trip ended up not happening, I have been trying to be creative on a daily basis on how to get RJ out of the house and active. Yesterday I winged it. Today, we went to the Children Museum and as we were waiting for our ticket to get into the museum they asked me if I was interested in a show they were having at 3pm. I asked what it was and she told me it was a children's rock concert. Before I could reply, RJ says: "Well, I don't want to go to a rock concert because they don't glorify God....and if they don't glorify God, why would I go to that?" She looked at me and said: " Well, I guess that answers that question, here is you ticket to the museum."
I figured that was the end of it until we were in line and RJ was telling the people going in for the concert that they should not be listening to Rock because it didn't glorify God. I moved him along and he became distracted by having fun at the museum. A while later he wanted to know why they would have a rock concert and I explained to him that it was not a church and they can have any kind of music they want. I told him it was ok to not like rock music and ok to tell someone how he feels about it. However, he must respect their right to listen to it.
I didn't go into depth about freedom and all that stuff..but I wanted to get it into him that his having the freedom to want to follow Christ was important and he should not be ashamed of it. Just as he is free to be a Christian, others are free to not be Christians. America, the land of the free. I just wonder when the day will come when my son speaks out so strongly, that he is asked to leave a place, just for being a Christian.
No matter what, I pray he chooses to be a Christian.

To Be Like..

I am sure you all do this, read the bumper stickers on the car in front of you while waiting at a red light. Well, I was doing that today. The car in front of me had a lot of peace signs and logos. There was one that caught my eye. I tried getting a picture of it, but the light turned green and the car was gone. However, I do remember it and this is what it said : “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.” Gandhi

I drove the rest of the way home reflecting on what it said. I want to be more like Jesus Christ. I want people who have met me to say that I did my best to be like Jesus. Now, I don't want to be only the part of Jesus that people like,I want to be more like all of Him. He was not afraid to be God and He walked in power and humbleness. He is a peacemaker and a warrior. There are no grey shades of life with Christ. He has been so watered down,I don't want the "modern day" Jesus that so many know about. I want be like who He really is.
I have a loooooooooooong way to go, but I try daily to be more like Jesus.

First I want to start by saying my blog title is taken from the title Rev Jonathan Walker gave to the sermon he preached today. This sermon was so good, I started jotting down some of the scriptures because I wanted to share them with you. The word of God is so powerful and when you apply it to your life, you are given tools to make it through anything.
His sermon was about the word "is" and how powerful it can be.
And I quote" If God says something (is),I'm going to stand on it." followed by " God's word is what it is. He is who he says he (is)."
I wish I could type word for word what he preached today. It was so full of encouragement that if God said it, then you need to believe it. If you are going through something, I encourage you to read the following scriptures out loud. Claim them in your life and hold on to them.
Isaiah 12:2-3 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
3 Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

Psalms 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Psalms 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD

Then he said " Faith is a way of life, not emotion." Wow!

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

And when you become tired and feel like you just can't make it..remember that God has gone ahead and already won the battle for you:

Psalms 89:18 For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
Luke 20:38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

As the choir sang so well today the song with the words " With God I can". Yes..with God who "IS" on your side and in you life, you can get through anything and everything!
Pray faith and God will bring your faith into existence.
God is Good!

Best Gift

Bob was away due to business this whole week. Needless to say when he arrived late Friday night we were super happy to see him.
RJ was reluctant to leave his dad today to attend a Birthday party, but I reminded him that his dad would be home when we got back. When we came home, I was met with a very wonderful surprise. My awesome husband had deep cleaned the whole house! Talk about the best gift he could ever give me.
I'm so thankful for him. When I was single I wrote out a list of the type of guy I wanted to marry and also what I wanted him to love the most about me. You know...he fits that list and the things he loves about me the most are on the list. To all those who are single, I tell you, do not settle! You are unique and special and there is someone who will love you beyond what you could imagine and who you will love in a way you didn't think was possible. No one is perfect, but I married the perfect man for me. I pray I can be the perfect wife for him.

RJ still has his cold and his "routine" is all off, however we did have a good day today. I wish we could have made it to church tonight, but he fell asleep at 6pm and woke up around 8:30pm, thus we stayed home. He was not up for very long and tonight when I tucked him into bed, I put my hand on his forehead and prayed for God to heal him of his cold and give him a good night's rest. He then reached up and put his hand on my forehead and prayed this prayer:" Dear Jesus, can you please bless my mommy and touch her body so that she does not get the hiccups, amen."

Sweet Connection

This morning RJ woke up with a cough, a runny nose and sad because his dad was out of town. He sat on the couch looking miserable and asked if he could not go to school and have a mommy day. I felt bad for him and agreed. To brighten his day, we went and picked up my good friend Christina Tate (he calls her Auntie Christina), she graciously agreed to spend the night.
So, we spent our day attempting to make him feel better. Christina did a great job getting him to laugh and to forget for a while that his dad was away. Tonight we skyped with Bob and it was such a sweet connection to be able to not only hear his voice, but see his face. We prayed together, read the Bible together and said goodnight. It made such a big difference for RJ. Hopefully when he wakes up he will feel better not only in body, but in heart and mind. Thankfully Bob will be home soon and all will be well again. Tonight, I find myself very thankful for Christina and for Skype!

Goodnight My Valentine

As you are well aware today is Valentines Day. Bob and I celebrated on Saturday since we knew in advance we would not be able to celebrate it today. We had a lovely dinner and RJ helped him pick out a box of chocolates for me. Therefore, RJ declared last night that he was going to be my Valentine on Valentines Day.
When he woke up this morning I had a surprise of chocolates, balloon and valentine themed candy waiting for him. He was so excited and happy. When I picked him up from school, we went to a child play center and he climbed a maze for three hours. We had a blast. My plan was to end it with dinner, just me and him. Well, he had other plans, he wanted to stay home and just play. So, we did, we stayed home and played. He kept stopping me through out the day and giving me a big hug and saying Happy Valentines Day followed by a kiss on the cheek. Tonight when I tucked him into bed I said" Goodnight I love you." He replied : " Goodnight my Valentine" and sighed with a smile on his sweet face and fell asleep.
I sit here tonight, thinking to myself how happy I am. I have a wonderful husband and we are very much in love and I have a sweet little boy who has a tender heart that overflowed with love today.
The best part of all this day is: John 3:16 " For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son and whosoever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting life"
There is no greater love than that.

Tonight as we were saying our prayers I thanked the Lord for being my rock. When I finished RJ says:" Um..MOM...there is something I need to tell you."
I waited for him to continue..." Well, Mom..God is NOT a rock...he's a boy." I asked him to please tell me more and he says. " Well..He is Lord and a rock is not alive, so God is not a rock."

I told him he was right. When he is older he will understand why I called God my rock...because HE is my rock, my sword and my shield..but these things will come in time...for now, I'm thrilled with RJ's logic!

A Good Teacher

There is something to be said about a good teacher. We experienced first hand how wonderful RJ teachers are. This morning, Bob gave RJ a snowglobe he purchased on a business trip. He was so excited! Like a good boy he carefully put it on the counter when it was time to get ready for school. The next thing we knew it slid off the table and shattered all over the floor. He cried al the way to school. Mrs Zaccaria and Mrs Wells didn't miss a beat and validated his sadness. They were quick to focus his attention to the class pets and allowed me to slip out the door. When we picked him up today,he was all smiles! I'm so thankful for good teachers!

"Who's Talkin To You?"

Tonight at church we had a guest speaker who is a missionary to Russia and Kazakjstan. He, his wife and their two children were there with them, the Rev. Scott Carpenter Family. He had his wife speak to the church and as she spoke, I thought, now she can reach many, many people in Russia. Her story will open the hearts of women who are hurting and hiding it. I'm looking forward to hearing good things about them. My prayer is they raise their funds quickly so they can go about what they need to do.
When he got up to preach, I knew we were in for a treat. I liked his style and by the time he was done, he allowed the Lord to open the hearts of many so that they could be set free of past hurts and of sickness in their bodies. His sermon was based on who is talking to you...who are you listening to? Are you listening to your circumstances, if so your situation is not going to change and what you expect will happen. Are you listening to the voice of the Lord? His words can change everything. Do you speak faith and life or do you speak death into your situation.
He talked about Peter walking on the water towards Jesus. It's impossible for man to walk on water, the winds and waves were reminding him of that as he walked. When he started to sink, he called out to who he was walking to in the first place and then was able to continue. God is calling out to you. He is walking in the middle of the storm, unharmed. When He calls, get out of your comfort zone and when the waves try to remind you that it's impossible to walk on water and reminds you that you are in a storm, ignore them. Keep your eyes on the One who called you and He will walk with you through and over the storm.

Once Loved, Now Forgotten

I keep telling Bob that one day he needs to preach a sermon about once loved, now forgotten. There is a cemetery next to RJ's school and there are people buried there from the 1800's. At one time they were vibrant life filled people. Now they are a name on a tombstone. Some have made their mark in life and their "name" lives on. However, the newer tombstones show signs of someone coming to "visit" and pay their respects. While the older ones are left alone. They were once loved, but now forgotten.
If you go to an elderly folks home, there are many there who never have a visitor. They either have no children/family or if they do they are just too busy. These elderly have become once loved, but now forgotten.
Remember your first car? Oh how you cleaned it up and polished you still have it, or is it in a junk pile somewhere..once loved, now forgotten.
Don't get so busy in life, that you forget to love and honor those around you. Jesus died for you, but didn't forget you, He became alive again. Don't let Him be a once loved, but now forgotten.
Valentines Day is coming and many take time to stop and show their appreciation and love...remember to tell the lover of your soul, how much you love Him. Remember to call your loved ones who are far away.
God is Good!

As a mother of a toddler, I at times am overwhelmed with the realization that the foundation on who RJ is going to be as an adult is being built now and will be for the most part cemented by the time he is 5 years old. Many have questioned my staying home and choosing to not work so I can take care of my son. I know that it's a gift that many moms wish they could have. Since he has been born, we have poured ourselves and the things of God into him. I know there will come a day when he will have choices to make and a path to follow. Right now we have a lot of say in what he does, where he goes and things like that. But a time will come when he will make his own choices. My hope and prayer is that he will love the Lord and give his musical talents to God. I think he has it in it to be a "famous" person if we put him in that direction. I don't want him to be famous to the world, I want him to be the apple of God's eye and one who brings many to Christ.
Right now, I can only lead by example, and pray for him. I can put all the tools he needs in his hands and pray that when the day comes, he will use those tools and not lay then down and walk away from them.
We are not perfect parents or perfect people, we pray God helps us to cherish our son and shower love upon him as Christ loves us.

Today Pastor Davis preached a sermon that I would call a golden nugget. It's one of those sermons that you hold on to and take out to remember and live by. He preached about Moses and the Israelites walking through the wilderness. God lead them into it and He was with them the whole time. Many times we have a trial come into our life and we don't understand why it is happening to us. If God is with you, then instead of complaining all the time, dust yourself off and say to God if you are in this and you are with me, then I need you to help me get through it to the other side. I am guilty of getting upset at times and I catch myself complaining..then I remember all the times we had food to eat and didn't know how we were able to buy the groceries. God has always made sure we had food and shelter. Once again, I told the Lord that even though I am in a "Wilderness" right now, that He is with me and I know that if He is with me,that I will make it through.
The past two years have been rough, but God is changing me and making me a better person. I appreciate life much more and am so thankful for what I do have. I believe this year we will finally make it out of the Wilderness we have been in. I believe on the other side is our promises. Until we get there, I will cling to my Savior and allow Him to guide me through it all.

" I am..."

Today while at the office visiting Bob, RJ and I were having a chat about ethnic food. We both agreed that we liked Ethiopian food and pasta(except he doesn't like sauce). As we were chatting he was getting ready to take a bite out of an Italian cookie. He makes a face and gave it to me and says that he really didn't like it. I then asked him how he could have Italian in him and not like sauce and most of all the cookie. He then replies: "Well, that's because I'm really not Italian. I'm actually English and a tiny bit Chinese."
It was so funny that all we could do was laugh. Where he gets his ideas, I don't know, but it was so funny.
Laughter is good medicine for the soul and body!

RJ's Observation

A while back our favorite Borders store closed. RJ didn't say much, but I guess he was thinking about it tonight because as we were driving in the car he said:" Mom, why did the Borders store close?" We did our best to explain to him that they didn't sell enough books and so they had to close the store. He was quiet for a bit and then said: " Well, I know why they closed. They had all the books upstairs and it takes too long to climb the stairs and it makes you tired. OH and the elevator was so slow, no one wanted to wait for it, so they just didn't go upstairs and buy the books."
I have to admit I was surprised at his very clear observation, I think he is right.

RJ likes to predict the weather at times. So, today as we were coming into the house, he announced that a storm was coming to NY and the weather told him that NY was going to have it's first big tornado. He then proclaimed that we did not have to worry because God was going to protect us and if we hid under his umbrella and hugged each other tight, we would be just fine.

Children say funny things and they see/understand more than we as adults give them credit. Who knows, we might have a tornado the weather has already been warm for January and February. Either way, I enjoy listening to him talk and am tickled with the big words he uses.

On Wednesday nights we have what we call Care Group, which is a Bible study group. I love our group because it enables me a chance to get to know some people I go to church with on a deeper level. We become like a family. Over the years, I have seen prayer after prayer answered, in a very short time, after we prayed together as a group. The Bible tells us that when two are three come together in agreement and pray, that Jesus will show up. Tonight we had one of those moments. My brother-in-law has been very sick. He called right when we were getting ready to pray for everyone's needs. He asked if we could pray for him. When we got off the phone, we all prayed. I got a text from him saying that within 5 minutes of his call, his ears popped. He is on the road to recovery and I have no doubt it's because of prayer. This all tied in so well with our lesson. Our Bible lesson was about having Hope in God. We may feel trapped and helpless, but when we call on the Lord, He will hear us and will deliver us. Don't give up hope! When all seems at a loss, hang on and call on the Lord.
