an early present

We are thankful that there was no damage to our home, however we still do not have electricity! Thankfully Tim and Claudia opened their home for the Long family. In the middle of all the ups and Downs I was given the best early birthday present. My best friend Reva showed up at my door on Monday! I was so happy to see her I started to cry. We are having fun pretending that we are back in our youth camp days. Thankfully we can take a shower at the office. Our wonderful neighbors hooked us up to their generator so we can charge our phones, turn ina lamp and plug in the refrigerator.

Hurricane Irene 2011 impact

We are doing ok. We do not have power right now, but we do have water. May God bless my wonderful neighbor who had an extra generator and we were able to plug our refrigerator in to it's power source. At least we won't lose our food and we will have plenty to eat. And it may seem small, but coffee in the morning is VERY important in our house! It was extremely windy most of the night and for several hours it became calm. We had a lot of broken branches and our picnic table busted from a large branch. I would rather it hit the table then my house! I am so thankful. We prayed and I know a lot of other people were praying and it's like a big bubble was over our home. The wind is coming back strong again and we may not have power for another day or so. We are staying safe and dry and we are thankful. The Long Family is still with us and we truly enjoy having them with us during this time.
Please continue to pray for us. I know God is with us and I have no fear!
He is our peace in the midst of the storm.

All is Well

At this present time the rains is coming down pretty hard, but if I didn't know there was a Hurricane watch I would think it was just a bad rain storm. I think we will be ok. I have prepared for the worst, but I think we will be fine in our area.
Either way we have peace and know God is with us.
Due to the storm the Long Family is still here. We are having a wonderful time being shuttered in the house together. So glad to have their company!

Sweet Tears

Yesterday I was on-line checking the news update on Hurricane Irene. I happened to see a video clip about a dog and a fallen marine. I was curious and I played it. RJ was sitting really quiet next to me and the next thing I know he has these big tears rolling down his cheeks. His lips are all puckered up and his shoulders were quietly shaking. He then begins to ask why the dog is crying and why did his owner die. I had no idea it was going to touch him like it did. I explained to him what happened and I thought he was ok. Five minutes later he is just weeping on the couch and this is what he said. " I need to comfort that doggy. I need to skidoo into the computer and go hold the doggy. Who is going to take care of the dog, I need to take care of him." Now skidoo is a word from Blues Clues where the character does this by going into a picture and then you learn something new. Note to self, have RJ watch something else for a while...anyways..I explained to him that he can't do that because Blue is not real and it's just a cartoon. Thankfully Bob came home just as we were having this conversation. He helped me explain that we could pray for the doggy and God would help the dog get a new owner. This made RJ happy and we prayed together for the dog.
The rest of the night every once in a while RJ would just get weepy over the dog. It was so sweet and gave me a window once again to see the tender heart my boy has.

Power of your Testimony

As you are aware we have the Long Family who are Missionaries to Vanuatu in our home. Hopefully one day they will become Missionaries to Zimbabway in the not too distant future. We truly have enjoyed their company and are glad they will be with us for a couple more days. Tonight He shared with the church his testimony. He shared with us how he was before he came to the Lord and all the steps God took him until he became a Missionary. He was very transparent and honest. He was also VERY funny. Just by telling his story he was a great encouragement to us and I am sure to many others in the congregation. Everyone has a story to tell. The more you tell it, the more people you can help. You don't have to be a preacher to share your life story with someone. Your story can make all the difference in the world to another.

"Stuck in my Heart"

Last night RJ wanted to play the drums for the Long Family (Missionaries to Vanuatu). They were delighted and went downstairs to hear him play his drums. He played three songs and I knew that was more than enough since he plays very loud and hard...we are working on him playing softer...I told him it was time to finish the song and he did, but cried all the way up the stairs because he had " Two more songs stuck in his heart." I assured him he could play them the next day. So tonight once Care Group( Bible Study) in our home was over, he asked very nicely if he could play the two other songs for them and then explained to us why it was so important. Here is his explanation:
" Jesus gives me a song in my heart and when I play them they fall out of my heart. They go into Jesus' heart and then He puts them back into my heart. Jesus shares from His heart to mine. So I really need to play the songs so they can fall out of my heart and go to Jesus' heart."
After that explanation, how could we resist. He played them with all he had within him. The songs were: We are the Free and Lord You are Good
Jesus said to let the children come to Him. We allowed him to worship the King of Kings today and he was thrilled. It may have been loud to us, but to the Lord is was pure and beautiful worship.
Sing your song with all you have, the Lord loves your Praise!

Earthquake and Vanuatu

Today RJ experienced his first earthquake. He was very excited and nervous as the same time. Me being a native to them, I was not bothered by it and life went on as normal.

This week we are privileged to have Mike and Lisa Long Missionaries to Vanuatu in our home this week. I have to say we are having a wonderful time getting to know them. RJ already broke them in by playing three songs on the drums. When we told him three was enough RJ started crying and saying that he had two more songs on his heart to play for them. Later when we did our nightly routine he asked God to bless Vanuatu. Already they are making a positive impact on him as he listens to their stories.
We are looking forward to a wonderful week with them!

Noah's Ark RJ's version

Today RJ started to "read" out loud from a random church pamphlet. Here is what I heard:
" I am going to read about Noah's Ark. God told Noah to build an Ark and Noah obeyed the Lord and the Lord said, You can build a garage out of Lincoln Logs, but you can't build a crazy building out of blocks cause I'll blow it down. You can eat the cherries, but you can't eat the strawberries cause the will make you sick! You can play the drums, but you can't play the piano because it doesn't sound right! You can play with cars, but not the trains. You can eat breakfast but you can't watch a movie it will make your head turn into a potato! And Noah Obeyed the Lord."

That was it...I had a hard time not laughing because he was so serious.
Children are good for the soul. I think RJ must make God smile.

"My Favorite Song"

Every Sunday I go through the same "battle" with RJ. He goes from being excited to distressed and whiney. He loves going to church and loves to sing/worship to the Lord. However being the musical child he is he becomes upset because in his words: " They won't sing my favorite song." Which is followed by: " I can't read the words to the new songs." I made a deal with him that I would read the words to him so he could learn the new songs..this made him happy. However the dilemma of his favorite song still stands. For about a month of or so now, I have been telling him to tell the Lord what song he would like to hear and if the Lord lays it on his heart, then He probably will put that song in the mind of who is going to lead worship. I told him that he has to ask for more than one song. His first song of choice starts with Lord I Lift Your Name On High. I don't know the title of the song, but RJ knows it word for word and it's his number one favorite church song. On a steady basis he has been thrilled when the song leader starts to sing at least one of the songs he prayed about. This is teaching my son great faith and that He can talk to the Lord about anything. This morning, he only wanted one and it was his favorite. I told him that sometimes the Lord says can guess it...the first song they sang today was his favorite song. He was thanking Jesus for answering his prayers.
Hebrews Chapter 11 verse 1 says: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
RJ prays with NO doubt that God is going to answer his prayers. When you pray, pray with Hebrews Chapter 11 can't see it, but you have faith it will come to pass.

Psalm 34

This was our reading tonight..I wanted to share the whole thing. Read, rejoice and be glad!

Psalm 34

1I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

5They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

6This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

7The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

8O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

9O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

10The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

11Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?

13Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

14Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

15The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

16The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

17The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

18The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

19Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

20He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

21Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.

22The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Guess Where We Went Today...

So, today Bob and RJ were going to work on the tree house after Bob got done working at the church..well..when he got home it looked like it was going to rain and RJ was sound asleep from a play date with Alexis and Louis. RJ woke up a bit grumpy and was kind of sulking on the couch next to his dad because it was raining..then all of a sudden he announced he "was not too tired to go to the Guitar Center." Now we had told him we were going on Monday, but since it was raining, we caved and took him tonight. He had a blast playing all the drums. There are some battles you let them win..just not all of them!
I wonder if that is how God is with us..He says no wait, I said wait, I said no...well Ok, here you go. He always keeps His word. Imagine, we gave our son something so simple and he was thrilled out of his mind...imagine how much more wonderful it is when God listens to your request for the smallest of things that mean so much to us.

The Guitar Center

A while back a string broke on Bob's Ukulele better known in our house as Daddy's Guitar. Today RJ says to me: " Mom, we need to go to the Guitar Center and fix Daddy's guitar." Me: " ok, but not today, how about Monday." RJ: " No, we need to go today it's so broken it needs to be fixed." Then the light bulb goes off in my head and I realize that he really isn't interested in the Guitar, he wants to play all the drums. So I say " Why do you really want to go?" He replies in a very soft voice with a HUGE smile on his face," I want to play ALL the drums." I reply with : " That's what I thought, we will go on Monday." He then starts to ask what day it is and we go through all the days till Monday.
Later tonight he tried to talk Bob into going...he is sneaky. He will have to wait until Monday. Look out drums, here he comes!

A salve for the wounded

RJ picked a rather interesting section of the Bible today. He wanted to read from I Timothy and pointed to chapters 4 and 5. We read from what he calls the Triumph Bible version which is The Living Bible translation. I would highly recommend that you read it in your own Bibles or better yet Google it so you can read it in The Living Bible version. It is loaded with wonderful things to live by and even talks about things that will happen in our day and age.
There is a section that stood out to me it was the very last two verses of chapter 5. It says: " Remember that some men, even pastors, lead sinful lives and everyone knows it. In such situations you can do something about it. But in other cases only the judgment day will reveal the terrible truth. In the same way, everyone knows how much good some pastors do, but sometimes their good deeds aren't known until long afterward."
My mind began to wander to all the people I know who have walked away from God because someone in a pastoral position hurt them. I began to feel so sad inside for them. We as humans are not perfect and we make mistakes even a man who is the Spiritual Shepard of a flock. Even yet, there are so many good pastors who love with all they have and wish they could be a salve for the wounded. Today I dedicate this blog to all of you who gave up on God and the church due to some type of hurt. Jesus knows and He loves you very much. I truly believe that God can place a Pastor in your life who is like the last one mentioned. He is a man of good deeds. Let us not focus on the ones who make bad choices, but let us focus on Christ and allow Him to lead and guide us in all truths. There are good men out there who follow Christ. Forgive those who have hurt you and let God be your salve. I challenge you to trust one more time. Jesus is coming back and He wants you to be with Him in Heaven. I want YOU to be in Heaven!

The Cemetary

You never know when a life lesson is going to happen. We as parents are learning to jump on them when they come. I mentioned in my last blog that Bob had taken RJ to see Uncle Johny. I thought I would expand more on it. RJ has seen many times Bob's family picture as well as a picture of John in Bob's office and wallet. This past weekend he wanted to know why he has never seen John and wanted to meet him. Thus, Bob took him to where John is buried. Bob reminded him of the dead bird we found in our yard and how it was buried in our back yard. He told him how John got very sick and then died. On John's tombstone there is a carving of drums. RJ LOVES the drums and became very excited that he had a connection with an Uncle he had never met. He was so excited that he started to dig in the ground. When asked why he was digging he said it was because he wanted to meet Uncle Johny. I know it had an impact on him because he was talking about it with me today. After "meeting" Uncle John, they walked around the cemetery together and RJ says" Yeah, I like it here, this is a good place." At a young age we have taken the fear of death and cemeteries out of him.
Many people are trying so hard to stay young and avoid death. I do not fear death. I do not fear the grave. I want to live a full life full of love and laughter filled with God' presence. Because Jesus is the reason I live, then when this life is over, I will be with Him. Therefore there is nothing of death to fear. I walk with Him now even though I can not see Him. When my day comes, then with death, I will see Him face to face! I will not lie and say I would not like to live until I am old and gray...I want to see my son grow up and all that other stuff....but ooh deep inside a song rings..this world is not my home, I'm just a passin through My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue...I can't feel at home in this world anymore. Jesus is coming soon folks...I may be alive when He comes back and when He does I pray I am caught up in the rapture.

Lake, 4H Fair,21,Daddy Day and Nevin

This past weekend we went to NJ for our last big Summer Hurrah before September arrives with the start of Pre-K for RJ. While I was packing for our weekend trip, RJ tells me that he needed a Daddy Day in NJ. I passed the information on to Bob and he said he would do the best he could. This is how the weekend unfolded:
Lake: We went to one of RJ's favorite summer place in NJ and that is Lake Absegami. Joe Joe, Noah and Grampy came with us.. We had a BLAST!
4H Fair: It was small according to what this California girl is used to, but RJ's delight over the baby chicks that had just hatched was priceless! Uncle Joe, Joe Joe and Noah joined us. We had a good time. His snack of choice was cotton candy!
21: My niece Taylor turned 21, the majority of family and longtime friends came together to celebrate her birthday.
Daddy Day: So..RJ woke up bright and early Saturday morning and announced that it was time for Daddy Day. Bob being the wonderful daddy he is complied and took RJ for breakfast. He also showed RJ where his Uncle John (Bob's younger brother) is buried. This came about because RJ mentioned that he knew everyone but Uncle Johnny. RJ was thrilled when he found out he had a connection to John, they both love drums. My sweet boy started to dig in the dirt because he wanted to meet John. From there, they went to Ocean City and rode a bike on the boardwalk. Precious memories were made! Of course RJ was not done and Sunday after church they returned to Ocean City for the rides and I was not included because in RJ's words and he counts on his fingers: " RJ is one, Daddy is one and that makes two, that's a Daddy Day. RJ is one, Daddies is two and mommy makes three...that is not a daddy day." Don't worry, I was more than happy to give in. I enjoyed a free day to myself!
Nevin: We have been trying for several years now to have another child. We are starting to talk and pray about the possibility of adoption. Sunday we attended church in NJ, pastored by the Hanscom's. They at times are Foster Parents. I respect them for this because it's not easy. This Sunday they had the sweetest baby boy named Nevin. I held him and fell head over heels in mommy love with him. I wanted to pack him up and take him home with me forever. Of course I can't do that unless I adopt him and I don't know if that is an option for us in regards to him. I will say this, if I could I would love to bring him home! I pray that Lord will bless us with another child. RJ liked baby Nevin so much he asked if we could take him home to stay forever. The Lord knows what is best and I pray God takes good care of him.

"Daddy Will You Carry Me?"

RJ likes to ask this question when he is tired, doesn't feel like walking or when he wants to be close to his dad." Daddy will you carry me?" Bob replies: " I'll make a deal with you, I promise to carry you for as long as you like for as long as I can."
When RJ asked this question tonight at bed time, I began to think about our Heavenly Father. If Bob loves RJ as much as he does, how much more does our Heavenly Father love us?
Life has a way of making us tired and wore out, when this happens raise up your arms and say " Daddy will you carry me?" He will carry you for as long as you like and for long as He can...

Nightly Routine/Seeds

I often mention that we have a nightly routine, I am not sure if I have every described what that routine is. It goes something like this:
1. I give RJ a bath, he takes off running while I chase him and try to get his pajamas on.
2. Bob most of the time will read a story, nursery rymes or a random book
3. As a family we sit down on the couch and each say our prayer of thanks for the day and any request made known to us. RJ usually says the same prayer of : " God bless Louis and Thank you Jesus for Louis". Louis is his best friend. Sometimes he will surprise us and say a prayer for someone he knows is sick.
4. Bob then reads outloud from the Bible. Often RJ will ask for some random book of the Bible.
5. RJ drinks his milk and listens while Bob reads and when Bob is done, he will tuck RJ into bed.
Tonight as we sat down for our prayers, RJ had his Bible in hand and proceeded to tell his version of Luke Chapter was GREAT! All the times of reading the story when asked, sunk in and he got the basics of the lesson/story.
It was fitting then to read from Matthew Chapter 13 about the different typs of seeds that are sown. We are hoping the RJ is the seed that is good ground and will bring forth a great harvest.
What type of seed are you? Do you experiance God and then give up? Do you walk with Him for a while and when things are rough, walk away? Do you live for Him with all you have no matter what happens? Are you sharing what God has done for you with others?
You can not escape the fact that the world is falling apart before our very eyes. A day is coming when you will need to know if you will serve Jesus no matter the cost. Will you die for Him? Will you still live for Him when it's no longer free to do so? Will you continue to show love for others even when they hate you for following Christ?
A storm like no other is coming. Stand strong on the Rock of Ages and He will be your foundation. When all else is sinking sand, Jesus will hide you in the shadow of His wings.
God is Good!

NAYC 2011 was EPIC!

As you have read from my previous blog, this past week we traveled to Columbus, Ohio to attend the North American Youth Congress. This event takes place every two years. I have never attended one and was not sure what to expect. I heard that it was a big fashion show and so on, but that the church services were amazing. We arrived late Wednesday night and I was thrilled that we found a seat next to my good friend Joy! Since we arrived in the middle of the preaching after a 12 hour ride in the car, we were not that in to it, we were tired, but it was nice to see so many young people in one place.
Thursday went as follows:
There was a day session, we attended and it was pretty good. When we arrived for the night session we sat with the Bethel Youth group. Jimmy Toney preached and the subject of his sermon was " We are Giants". I have grown up in church and I have to say this was one of the best sermons I have heard. By the time he was done, the presence and power of God was so strong it was almost mind boggling. It was very clear that God was causing His light to shine brighter in our young people. The worship was amazing and I left thinking how in the world can it get better? It truly felt like we had gone into a Heavenly realm and reached Heavenly places in our worship and prayers. Lives were being changed. Young people were obtaining the strength they needed to stand for Christ in a world that is becoming more and more antichrist. RJ slept through the sermon, but woke up at the end, he was grumpy. Then after a while he got into the music. I knew something had soaked in because the next day he kept singing a part of what had become the anthem song for the NAYC event..and he kept saying " We are Giants!"
Friday: We attended the day was very good as well. The evening service arrived and the place was packed out. We were lucky to get the chairs that Jessie Berardi found for us, or we would have been standing. There were over 10,000 people in attendance, most of them from the age of 12 to 25ish. This time, I made sure RJ took a nap, since the whole reason we came was for him. By the third song, I saw the light go off and he was singing, dancing and shouting just like everyone else. I was so happy! The praise and worship was so intense that by the time Rashidi Collins got up to preach, I was wondering if he was going to get to say anything. He was so anointed that by the time he was done he had taken us to another level. In all my life I have never experienced the power of God like I did Friday night. By the mention of his name, Jesus showed up. It felt like the whole entire arena had be transported into the throne room of Heaven. I could feel God's presence vibrating through my very being. RJ was deeply impacted and I can see he will never be the same. A seed of the great things of God has been sown into him. He is still RJ and still a 3 year old, but I can see it is something he will never forget. He is already asking to go to the next one.
In a world that is becoming darker, there is a light that is shining brighter and brighter. I was thrilled to see young people all around me who were focused on Jesus Christ. The rumor of a fashion show, was wrong. Sure they were dressed nice, but in all honesty, they were modest and truly had their eyes on Jesus. I have been forever changed by what I saw and experienced. I wish every young person could experience something as EPIC as this at least once in their life. They will never be the same.
God is Good!

Excitement in the air

There is much anticipated excitement in our home. Wednesday we will be driving to Ohio for Youth Congress. We love road trips, so I am sure we are going to have a blast. RJ likes to play freeze out ( rolling down all the windows). I guess since it's summer it should be called heat out...since it's been so hot. I have been to the youth conventions in California with about 5,000 young people max, in attendance and I have also been to General Conference which was about the same amount. However I have been told that it can get past 10,000 young people in attendance. To me, it's going to be a small taste of Heaven. What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see! RJ has been calling it the Big, Big, Big church in Ohio. He is so excited to be with a large group of people all coming to worship the Lord. He loves to have church and we have church a lot in our home, so I am certain He is going to be impacted by this experience.
More and more I want to be in the presence of the Lord. I crave Him in the morning, I make sure I speak with Him before I lay my head down to rest. I need Jesus every day. So, you can get a sense of my excitement to know I am going to join thousands of people in one place at one time, all to worship the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We won't see Him, but we shall feel His presence, I am sure of it.
